Square Fruit Stuns Japanese Shoppers - BBC
But 20 years ago a forward-thinking farmer on Japan's south-western island of Shikoku solved the problem.
The farmer, from Zentsuji in Kagawa prefecture, came up with the idea of making a cube-shaped watermelon which could easily be packed and stored.
Fashion food
To make it happen, farmers grew the melons in glass boxes and the fruit then naturally assumed the same shape. Today the cuboid watermelons are hand-picked and shipped all over Japan. But the fruit, on sale in a selection of department stores and upmarket supermarkets, appeals mainly to the wealthy and fashion-conscious of Tokyo and Osaka, Japan's two major cities.
Each melon sells for 10,000 yen, equivalent to about $83. It is almost double, or even triple, that of a normal watermelon. "I can't buy it, it is too expensive," said a woman browsing at a department store in the southern city of Takamatsu.

Nigeria drops players after scans - BBC
I am sure the content of this news will be a surprise to some people. A lot have been said about the ages of some Nigerian footballer trading their skills abroad. please always wonder why they retire from football early and why they always looked older than their age. You can hear a Nigerian footballer claiming to be 19 years old and he might have a child of 11 years ago. I came accross this news some days ago and I think the days of fake ages with footballers are coming to an end. But scientist can be revolutionary, how they can detect the real age of me and you.
Nigeria have dropped 15 players from their Under-17 World Cup squad, following tests to determine the ages of team members.
Nigeria are the hosts of the tournament, which kicks off at the end of October.
The move to scan the players came after football's world governing body Fifa announced plans to carry out tests during the tournament itself.
Coach John Obuh now has a squad of 23 players remaining for the event.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) spokesman Ademola Olajire told the BBC the move to drop the 15 had been taken after the results of the tests were discovered, and on performance grounds.
"The decision was taken because the NFF was concerned with the preservation of Nigeria's good image," said Olajire.
NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi said the decision to drop the players would not prevent Nigeria from the defending the title they won in South Korea two years ago.
"We had 38 players in camp and some of them failed [age tests]," he was quoted as saying.
"[But] that does not mean that we do not have a team that will represent us at the World Cup - we still have a good team."
Nigeria have won the Under-17 World Cup three times, in 1985, 1993 and 2007.
The Golden Eaglets, as Nigeria's under-17 team is known, have been drawn against Germany, Argentina and Honduras in the first round and will be based in Abuja.

Caster Semenya has won a World Championship, but...
After watching the video of her race on TV, I couldn’t help myself but wonder if she was a man or woman. Few hours later, I wasn’t surprise to see the same questions all over the media. Anyone who asks such question has the right to do so. She doesn’t physically show the attributes to be a woman. After following up the news for days, I believe I am being forced to believe she is a woman. Her parents, relative and country people all stood out to support and prove she is a woman. I hope she do continue her good race and represent the African continent in flying colors.
