50 Cent's Dramatic Change

When I saw this pictures, I thought they were some graphics editing. I'm happy to see 50 Cent taking his acting as serious as he does his music. 50 Cent is looking rather frail for his new movie w/ Ray Liotta called Things Fall Apart. The rapper who has ended the career of many of his rivals has dropped over 50 pounds going from 214lbs to 160lbs.

Check out the before and after and let me know who changed the most.

Chicken With Four Limbs In Ogun State

Residents of Ojuore in Sango area were amazed when a chick with four limbs was hatched by a mother hen last Sunday. And the ever superstitious neighbours suspected it was an act of wizardry by the chicken farmer who is simply known as Bola City.

•The four-legged chicken.

The incident, it was learnt, happened at about six o’ clock in the evening. Residents who witnessed the incident were scared of moving close to the chickenfarmer for they suspected he must have bewitched the hen which hatched the four-limbed chick.
Even pregnant women who lived in the same compound with him were said to have deserted their homes because of fear.

Bola City was said to have been forced to vacate his house due to the suspicion and commotion that were generated after the incident. Mulikat Ajala, a neigbour of the chicken farmer said: “in fact, this is unbelievable because it has not happened before. But I am not surprised because the man (the chicken minder) had been behaving strangely. And for his hen to have hatched a chick with four limbs means he could be a wizard. In fact, I cannot allow my children to move closer to him lest he bewitch them.”

Some Christian as well as Islamic faithful seized the opportunity to preach that people should turn to God, saying that the incident had some spiritual significance.
Experts, however, said the chicken suffered from genetic disorder before it was hatched.

Nigerian Politician Caught With Bellyful of Cocaine Meant to Fund Election Campaign

 Eme Zuru Ayortor
Nigeria's drug enforcement agency says it has arrested a politician who allegedly swallowed 2 kilograms (nearly 4.5 pounds) of cocaine to fund his election campaign. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said Monday it arrested 52-year-old Eme Zuru Ayortor at Lagos' Murtala Mohammed International Airport. The agency says the pharmacist-turned-politician was trying to board a flight to Germany when a scanning machine detected an abnormality in his stomach.

Agents say they found 100 individually wrapped packages of cocaine inside his body. The agency says the politician claimed his failed 2007 run for the Edo state House of Assembly ruined him financially and smuggling drugs was the only way he could fund his 2011 election bid. He has yet to be charged.

From Lagos dumpsite to centre stage at London's IndigO2

If Vocal Slender aka Eric Obuh never believed that dreams come true, I am sure he would shout it to anyone who cares to hear, that dreams do come true. This time last year, 28-year-old Eric Obuh was working as a scavenger on a dump site in Lagos, Nigeria. He hoped his meagre wage would one-day amount to enough to fund his dreams of becoming a music star, but he was a long way off his target.

But a chance appearance on BBC documentary ‘Welcome to Lagos’ landed the aspiring musician a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the world’s number one music venue. Later this month Obuh will perform at London’s IndigO2 for the CokoBar music festival. The show will celebrate the rise of the African music industry.

“I’m looking forward to performing alongside other fellow Nigerian artists such as Wande Coal and Bracket,” the rapper told the Voice-Online. Nigerian rap sensations Wande Coal and Terry G will also appear on the impressive bill at the venue frequented by global pop stars, Prince, 50 Cent and Usher.

Representatives for Vocal Slender, who has since been issued with his first passport for the upcoming concert, said that he was both ‘excited’ and ‘humbled’ by the experience.

“Vocal Slender is the main act as the public are eager to see him perform live in the UK amongst a variety of other well-known Nigerian artists. He will be flying to London in two weeks and while he is there he will also be shooting his first music video” said one representative.

The CokoBar music festival is at the IndigO2 on May 31 from 7pm

Treasure hunt: Subscriber sues MTN, demands N210m

A subscriber in Calabar, Cross River State, Mr. Obi Osaje, has dragged one of the leading Global System for Mobile telephone providers, MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, to court over the company‘s treasure hunt competition.

The subscriber, among other things, is asking MTN to pay him N210m as damages.

Already, a Calabar High Court has fixed May 19, 2010 to begin hearing on the suit which borders on allegation that the company violated the rules of its concluded treasure hunt competition.

Specifically, the plaintiff in the suit is ”claiming the sum of N10m only being the grand prize for the competition” and ”another sum of N200m only being damages in aggravated terms for the tort of deceit, psychological trauma, worries and anxiety the claimant was exposed to.” Punch News

Eminem's 'Not Afraid' enters the Hot 100 @ No1.

Eminem's "Not Afraid," the first single from his upcoming album Recovery, enters the Hot 100 at #1. It's the first song to debut in the top spot since Britney Spears "3" did it in October.

It's only the second rap song ever to debut at #1, following "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy & Faith Evans (featuring 112) in 1997. "Not Afraid" is Eminem's third #1 on the Hot 100, following "Lose Yourself," his Oscar-winning smash from 8 Mile, and "Crack A Bottle," his all-star collaboration with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent.

"Not Afraid" sold 379,000 copies in its first week. That's the biggest weekly sales tally so far this year.  Only three songs in digital history have sold more copies in their first week. All were 2009 releases: Flo Rida's "Right Round" (636,000), Black Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow" (465,000) and the aforementioned "Crack A Bottle" (418,000).

Fela show takes Broadway by storm

Outside the theatre where Fela is being performed
Fela was not expected to be such a success on Broadway

A musical about Nigeria's most famous musician Fela Kuti is proving to be a surprising hit on Broadway, despite the lack of big stars or hit songs. There is a moment in the show when Fela encounters an African-American woman named Sandra on a visit to Los Angeles. As they share their respective experiences - she as a child of the American civil rights movement, he as an activist against his country's military dictatorship - their flirtatious, politically-charged banter heats up.

FELA KUTI
Fela Kuti [Pic from www.citizenofthemonth.com]
Founder of "afrobeat" - a fusion of African high-life, jazz and funk
Spoke up for Nigeria's poor and against the country's military regime
Married 27 women simultaneously, then adopted a rotation system where he kept only 12 at a time
Soon they look admiringly at one another with the same realisation: "We have a lot to learn from each other." To a New York audience including many Africans and African-Americans, the scene was sublime. After the laughs subsided, one could almost hear the smiles.

The play, titled simply Fela! is full of such moments. During the course of a free-flowing two hours and 20 minutes, the audience is treated to an innovative mix of biography, music and dance. The stage, set up as an approximation of the Shrine, his Lagos nightclub and community centre, is where Fela - who is played by two actors - narrates his journeys to far-away lands both geographical and spiritual.

Fela's journey to the spiritual world was particularly enjoyable for Kunle Ade, a Nigerian musician and fashion-designer based in New York's hip Fort Greene neighbourhood. "When Fela chants, it is really spiritual and deep. The producers knew what they were doing, and respected the material enough to guide it a certain way," he says.

ex-governor James Ibori arrested in Dubai

James Ibori, file image

After all the dramatic chase of ex governor Ibori, I just read of his arrest on BBC.

One of Nigeria's most influential and wealthy politicians, James Ibori, has been arrested in Dubai. The former governor of oil-rich Delta state is accused of corruption and laundering millions of dollars by Nigeria's EFCC anti-corruption agency.

Last month, police were attacked by Mr Ibori's supporters while trying to arrest him in his home town. For years, he has denied corruption allegations but is also wanted by police in the UK.

He is a senior figure in Nigeria's ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and played a key role in the 2007 presidential election victory of Umaru Yar'Adua, who died last week. BBC

'Starving yogi'
astounds Indian scientists
According to the AP Press,an 82-year-old man in India is claiming to have not had anything to eat or drink since 1940 - and doctors from the Indian military are allegedly studying him to learn his secret.
The man, Prahlad Jani, is being observed in a Gurjarat hospital. Jani claims to be a breatharian - someone who does not need to eat or drink, because he draws nourishment from the air and meditation.
As remarkable as his story is, Jani is not the first, nor the only, person to claim such a supernatural power. The claim that people can live without food or water is called inedia, and is actually somewhat of a common claim among religious fakirs and godmen of India. Unfortunately none of the cases have withstood scientific scrutiny. Thehuman body needs both food and water to function; it's as simple as that.
It's easy for anyone to claim that he or she has not had anything to eat or drink for the past few weeks or months (or years). But unless the person has been carefully and continuously watched during that time, it's impossible to prove the assertion true.
Reports claim that Prahlad Jani "has now spent six days without food or water under strict observation and doctors say his body has not yet shown any adverse effects from hunger or dehydration." Assuming the claim is true - and it's not clear just how strict the observation is - Jani's inedia so far remains unproven. If he really doesn't need food or water, he should be under close observation for months or years to prove it. Given that he claims not to have consumed anything since World War II, this shouldn't be a problem.

I was browsing through blogs and I spotted this video on Notjustok.com. So many rumors have been in the streets if 2face actually did a song with R-Kelly or Mary J. Blige. However, after watching this clip, if you still do not believe Africa’s Number 1 artiste, 2face Idibia and the Queen of Hiphop/Soul, Mary J Blige have recorded a song, then your head (especially your ears and eyes) is/are stuck in the clouds!

Shakira's World Cup song isn't going over so great

With all the problems facing this summer's World Cup in South Africa, the last thing it needed was trouble over something as silly as the tournament's official anthem, but that's exactly what Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" is causing among South Africans and many others who have endured it.

The song hit radio stations last week, with Johannesburg locals responding with comments like "It's horrible" and "How is Shakira going to sing the African part of it?" (My guess is with her voice, but a Speak & Spell could be a fun choice, too.)

The Colombian singer collaborated with South African band Freshlyground on the track, which borrows from a Cameroonian song called "Zangalewa." But the fact that the anthem for South Africa's World Cup is not being sung by a South African is the sticking point for the critics who aren't just opposed to the new tune itself.

Shakira is scheduled to perform "Waka Waka" with Freshlyground in front of 94,000 people at the final match on July 11. That should be interesting. Even more interesting? The actual tournament.    Yahoo!

42-year old panel beater redesigns Volkswagen Beetle

When the citizens consider their government to be corrupt, they lack the logic of productivity. I know Nigerians can be smart and innovative, and I always feel happy when I see someone doing something positive.

Anyways in case you're wondering, this is a locally redesigned Volkswagen beetle which was displayed at the 12th edition Abuja car show. The producer/designer is Mr. Mohammed Modibbo, a 42 yr old panel beater from Benue state. It took him 2 yrs to finish pimping this ride AKA Modibbo Wagen, turning the traditional two door beetle to a four door.

Hear him,”It was adapted from the Volkswagen Beetle. But because it is longer than the ordinary Beetle, I had to do some adjustment to the pedal, the clutch and gear selector.  I used the doors of two Volkswagen cars for the vehicle. The size of the car has also been increased. And the engine capacity is also changed to that of Danfo bus.

Due to the increase in the weight and size of the car, it needs extra engine to move it well. The car is therefore built with 1.6litre engine. It is 100 percent safe. I can even remove my hands from the steering when driving for some minutes to show its stability. I had done some perfection on the tyre alignment before assembling other parts.”
