I Love Nigeria

President Goodluck Jonathan

I have been going round Nigeria, State to State and City to City. My God, Nigeria is beautiful! I have been talking about our plans to improve our ailing infrastructure, our education standards, Power, Agriculture and the health sector among others. I have been telling Nigerians who gather in their thousands in Bauchi, Jos, Ilorin, Minna, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Ibadan, Kaduna, Lafia and others that the most urgent thing we need to do is to create jobs for our youths and develop our country and this we have started to do with progress being made in the Roadmap to The Power Sector Reforms which has seen the commencement of the new Super grid and the successful take off of several new power stations to power the entrepreneurial skills of Nigerians which in turn will lead to the creation of jobs for the people

Ugandan president to release rap album

Ugandan President Museveni
President Yoweri Museveni says he might release an album after a rap he performed became a smash hit on Uganda's radio stations and in its nightclubs.
"I was very happy with the reaction of the youth because that means they are very thirsty for the music of their ancestors," the 67-year-old told a news conference before elections on Friday.
The song was titled, "You want another rap?" after a question Museveni shouted to crowds of young people and quickly appeared for sale in Kampala.
"So after the election you may get quite a big album of the classics."

A LOVE REKINDLED

A LOVE REKINDLED by Myne Whitman
A new book is set to hit the market from the pen of Award winning blogger and author of romantic fiction, Myne Whitman. The novel, titled A LOVE REKINDLED is set in the United States and Nigeria, and is a story that entertains, emotionally engaging, and provides a window into Nigerian culture, places and people.

This book was written to showcase local characters in a loving relationship, something that is almost never seen in books. The author also witnessed ethnic violence in Warri and decided to explore this topical issue through fiction.

Love stories cut across race and geography, and the conflict in A Love Rekindled will attract adult mainstream and fiction readers everywhere. Myne Whitman also says she plans to write more of such books and would make this a series, which is always popular.

Her first novel, a self-published romantic fiction set in Nigerian and titled A Heart to Mend, was very well received, and has garnered a substantial following on blogger, Facebook and Twitter. It was also subsequently published in 2010, to good reviews, in Nigeria.

Chimpanzee Problem Solving by Cooperation

A brief, interesting clip from National Geographic's "Ape Genius" documentary, demonstrating problem solving skills in chimpanzees, by requesting cooperation.

Also shows chimpanzees providing assistance to humans, by noticing assistance is needed, and retrieving out of reach objects for their human companions.

As time goes on, it becomes more and more obvious that the great apes are our evolutionary cousins. I would hope everyone viewing this would be able to share in my astonishment and awe at the brilliance displayed by these amazing creatures.

High School Student with 2 Wives, 7 Kids

Life has been challenging for 31-year old Islamic cleric, Yekini  Akeem, an SS-2 Student of Itabo  Community High School, Itabo, Lanlate, Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria. This is because he is attending  secondary school at that age and he has two wives and seven children.

Alfa, as he is popularly referred to by his colleagues, said one of the  greatest challenges facing him has been the difficulty of interacting with his classmates who are far  younger than him.
Some of them, he claimed, heap lots of insults on him daily because of his age and they know that back  home he has two wives and seven children.

Alfa said: “I disregard every insult because I know what I want.  Often, I serve punishment together  with my classmates even when it is receiving strokes of the cane.”

Yekini blamed the delay in his secondary education on an illness that affected his father in 1995 when  he was preparing for his Junior Secondary School Certificate exam, JSCE. This later truncated his  education.

“ After staying for six years at home, Alfa said he later enrolled in a Qu’ranic school. He graduated  in Arabic studies in 2004 and became a qualified Islamic teacher (Alfa).

Catholic Church Releases iPhone App For Confession

An iPhone app aimed at helping Catholics through confession and encouraging lapsed followers back to the faith has been sanctioned by the Catholic Church in the United States.
"Confession: A Roman Catholic app" is thought to be the first to be approved by a church authority. It walks Catholics through the sacrament and contains what the company behind the program describes as a "personalized examination of conscience for each user." "Our desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology," said Patrick Leinen of the three-man company Little iApps, based in South Bend, Indiana.
 . . .

The app is not designed to replace going to confession but to help Catholics through the act, which generally involves admitting sins to a priest in a confessional booth. Catholics still must go to a priest for absolution. Little iApps said Bishop Kevin Rhoades, of the Diocese of Fort Wayne in Indiana, officially authorized the app for Catholics to use. "It has been approved by Bishop Kevin Rhoades," said Weinandy. Leinen said the app has already aided one man in returning to the sacrament after 20 years. "We hope many more will take advantage of this new confession resource," he added.

The celebrated polygamist, Pa Abubakar Masaba, is heading for a showdown with the Independent National Electoral Commission and the police following allegations that members of his family, numbering over 5,000 were denied registration by suspected thugs in the just concluded voter registration exercise.

Our correspondent gathered that suspected thugs allegedly thwarted efforts by members of the Masaba’s family to participate in the voter registration exercise at a registration unit in Bida Local Government Area of the state.

Intoducing: Mohammed Jammal(white Nigerian)

I first came across White Nigerian on a blog which I cannot remember right now but on the blog was a youtube video of Mohammed Jammal hanging out with Aki and Paw Paw and another of him making a funny comparison between life in Nigeria and life in the UK. Come 9th of January 2011 during Lord Of The Ribs show at Sheraton Hotels Abuja, White Nigerian was introduced onto the stage by Basket Mouth and soon after that, an interview with him was hurriedly put together. Below are the excerpts from the interview.

BACKGROUND
I grew up within a family of 7 kids in Jos, where I lived for 18 years of my life. I attended Hillcrest School before moving to London where I graduated with a BA in Business Administration at London Metropolitan Business School. I later went on to do a Masters in Global Management at Regents Business School where I graduated with a 2.1 last year.  Now I have moved back to home to start my career as I promised myself I would do.

THE NAME WHITE NIGERIAN
When I moved to London all my friends started calling me white Nigerian because it was the first time they had seen a “white boy” from Nigeria who speaks pigeon english and Hausa. Since then, everyone calls me the white Nigerian.

VOYAGE INTO ENTERTAINMENT
It all started with a video I made on youtube where I was speaking pigeon English and Hausa with Kevin Pam, the former winner of Big Brother Africa. I got over 20,000 views in the first two months of releasing that video. After that, Nigerian’s all over the world asked me to make another video, so I made one comparing life in London to life in Nigeria. As of today, the video has over 70,000 views.
